Sorat(h) mehalaa 9 ||
Guru piaareyo, Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib Jee Jee talks to us today in Sorath Ragini. Guru Sahib Jee begins the shabad -

Preetham jaan laehu man maahee ||
How can you know God, and the pathway to God? Sathiguru Maharaj Sahib Jee tells us today. O preetham, O my beloved Sikhs, jaan laehu - understand this, take this inside you, man maahee - in your mind. What is it that we have to understand? Guru Sahib Jee tells us in this same line. Preetham - That beloved Lord God, if you want to find that beloved Waheguru, jaan laehu, we have to find him, understand him and feel the presence of God man maahee - within your mind, within your spiritual body, within you, God dwells. So, O beloved Sikhs, know this understanding within your heart that God is within you.

Apanae sukh sio hee jag faa(n)dhhiou ko kaahoo ko naahee ||1|| rehaao ||
The whole jag, the whole world is faa(n)dhhiou, is entangled and is ensnared, apanae sukh sio, apanae means their own. Everybody is looking out for their own happiness. No one looks out for anyone else. Ko kaahoo ko naahee - no one belongs to anyone else. If we say that this person is my this and that and all things, they only remain as long as the body lives, and even while we are alive, those people who we keep with us all the time, sometimes they turn their backs as well. Guru Sahib Jee is telling us updesh, giving us a message of bairaag, of unattachment to the world. Rehaao - pause and think about this.

Sukh mai aan bahuth mil bait(h)ath rehath chehoo dhis ghaerai ||
In times of sukh, in times of happiness, bahuth - many people, aan - come and sit with you, mil bait(h)ath. Rehath chehoo dhis ghaerai. Dhis means direction, chehoo means four. In all four directions rehath, there remains ghaerai - literally meaning surrounding. In times of happiness, when we have lots of money, or there's no difficult times to deal with, there are many people sitting around us at all times.

Bipath paree sabh hee sa(n)g shhaaddith kooo n aavath naerai ||1||
Bipath paree, but when bipath comes, hard times come, sabh hee sa(n)g shhaaddith, sabh - all those people who were sitting around us, sa(n)g shhaaddhith - they shhaaddith, leave our company. Kooo n aavath naerai. Kooo, not even one person, aavath naerai - comes close, in those times of hardship.

Ghar kee naar bahuth hith jaa sio sadhaa rehath sa(n)g laagee ||
That naar - that wife, ghar means of your home. That wife, your partner, bahuth hith jaa sio. With whom you have bahuth - the most, hith means love. Sadhaa rehath sa(n)g laagee, who sadhaa - forever, laagee - attached, to your sa(n)g, to your company, always with you at all times. You never leave their side.

Jab hee ha(n)s thajee eih kaa(n)eiaa praeth praeth kar bhaagee ||2||
When your ha(n)s, when the swan, the soul within you thajee - leaves this kaa(n)eiaa, this body, praeth praeth kar bhaagee. She or he, whoever the partner is, will exclaim look, this dead body is like a praeth, it's like a ghost, it's scary. I don't want to keep it in the house, I want it to be either in the world, people bury or cremate, or whatever happens to a dead body, but it can't stay within the house. Yet that same body, when was alive was always sitting around it, always talking. The moment the soul leaves, that relationship breaks straight away. Praeth praeth kar bhaagee. She says this body is scary, it's frightening.

Eih bidhh ko biouhaar baniou hai jaa sio naehu lagaaeiou ||
Maharaj Jee says this is the biouhaar, this is the way the world is. Jaa sio naehu lagaaeiou - these are the people you have lagaaeiou - attached your naehu - love to.

A(n)th baar naanak bin har jee kooo kaam n aaeiou ||3||12||139||
Sathiguru Teg Bahadur Sahib Jee says a(n)th baar - in the end, naanak - Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib Jee says, bin har jee, without Waheguru, kooo kaam n aaeiou, nothing will come into your kaam, nothing will come into your use. Only a boat can help us cross the ocean. There may be many other things, but there's only that specific thing that can help us cross the ocean. In the same way, God's Name is the boat. If we have all the things to go inside the boat, but we don't have the boat, then we're not going very far. In the same way, Guru Sahib Jee's Naam, The Name of God is a boat to carry us across this world ocean. Yet we may have gathered together many things that we need to live this life, houses or whatever else, but they are all simply to be used throughout this life. None of them will take us across. Only the boat, only The Name can carry us across. Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib Jee says a(n)th baar naanak bin har jee - without meditation upon Waheguru, kooo kaam n aaeiou - nothing comes into your use.

Eih bidhh ko biouhaar baniou hai jaa sio naehu lagaaeiou ||
