English Hukamnama Katha - Ang 594

Artist:
The Hukamnama today is by Guru Amar Das Ji Maharaj and Guru Ram Das in Vadhans Raag on Ang 594 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj, Ji.

Salok mėhlā 3||
Satgur Amar Das Ji Maharaj Sachay Paatshah begins this Shabad with a Salok. Salok mėhlā 3 - This Salok is by Guru Amar Das Ji Maharaj. And this whole shabad isa vaar, in Vadhans Raag and the Vadhans Ki Vaar. Sachay Paatshah ji says:

Saṯgur no sabẖ ko vekẖ▫ḏā jeṯā jagaṯ sansār.||
Saṯgur no sabẖ ko vekẖ▫ḏā - Everybody vekhda - sees the satguru - the eternal Guru. jeṯā jagaṯ sansār ; jetais much as ; jagat - this world; this sansaar - Everybody sees the Guru.

Diṯẖai mukaṯ na hova▫ī jicẖar sabaḏ na kare vīcẖār||
By dithai - by seeing the Guru, liberation - mukati is not found. There are many ways to see the Guru and in this same Shabad, Satgur Ji will talk about those people who see the Guru with love. This does not mean that seeing the Guru has no power. But in what light do you see the Guru? That is what Guru Maharaj Ji is saying that the whole world looks at the Guru. Everybody looks at the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj. Some people look at the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj and see a scripture and some people look at the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj and see pages. But when a Sikh of Guru Gobind Sahib Ji Maharaj looks at the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj then they proclaim. Banee guru guru hai banee/ The Guru dwells within these words, within this Banee. So Sachay Paatshah ji Guru Amar Das Ji Maharaj is talking about people who see the Guru but have no love within. Diṯẖai mukaṯ na hova▫ī - by looking at the Guru in such a way mukaṯ na hova▫ī - you will not find mukati - liberation. jicẖar sabaḏ na kare vīcẖār; jichar - until you do not - kare; vichaar - you do not contemplate of what the Guru is saying in this shabad. Until you contemplate the words of the Guru that is where the liberation comes from. Sachay Paatshah ji carries on to say:

Ha▫umai mail na cẖuk▫ī nām na lagai pi▫ār||
Without contemplating what the Guru has told us the mail- the dirt of haumai - ego chuk-i - cannot be removed. nām na lagai pi▫ār - Without contemplating what the Guru has told us we cannot fall in love – have pi-aar for the name of the God.

Ik āpe bakẖas milā▫i▫an ḏubiḏẖā ṯaj vikār||
Maharaj Ji says Ik āpe bakẖas milā▫i▫an, those who aape - themselves, Waheguru Ji bakhas - forgives them milā▫i▫an - unites. ḏubiḏẖā ṯaj vikār - they give up their dubidha - their sense of duality and they give up their vicar - their sins.

Nānak ik ḏarsan ḏekẖ mar mile saṯgur heṯ pi▫ār. ||1||
Satgur sachey Paatshah ji now says there are those who when they do darsan of the Guru, when they see the Guru, mar mile; mar - literally means to die and mile means to unite. Now what dies? Their sense of I, their sense of ego dies when unites. saṯgur heṯ pi▫ār. Because they have het and piar are very close words. Both mean love and affection. Those who have love and affection for the satgur, for the eternal Guru, they are the ones who are doing the darshan of the Guru. Their ego dies. Let us pray that Guru Ji gives us the daat - gives us the gift of doing darshan in this manner.

Mėhlā 3||
Guru Amar Das Ji Maharaj carries on.

Saṯgurū na sevi▫o mūrakẖ anḏẖ gavār||
Saṯgurū na sevi▫o - Those who do not serve the eternal Guru, mūrakẖ anḏẖ gavār - they are murakh - foolish, andh - they are in darkness, gavaar - literally wandering around in stupidity.

Ḏūjai bẖā▫e bahuṯ ḏukẖ lāgā jalṯā kare pukār||
Maharaj Ji says Ḏūjai bẖā▫e bahuṯ ḏukẖ lāgā - In the bha-e - in the love of dujai - duality of this world, bahuṯ ḏukẖ lāgā - laga - they experience bahut - a great amount of dukh - pain. jalṯā kare pukār - Whilst jalta - they are burning they cry out.

Jin kāraṇ gurū visāri▫ā se na upkare anṯī vār||
Those kaaran - reasons through which visaria - they have forgotten the Guru se na upkare anṯī vār - At the vaar - time of anti - at the time of death they will not come upkare; upkare means to support, to rescue, to save. They will not save you. Imagine O human being, all those things which you have put between you and the Guru, those things will not save you.

Nānak gurmaṯī sukẖ pā▫i▫ā bakẖse bakẖsaṇhār. ||2||
Guru Ji says only through the Guru’s gurmati - through Guru’s instructions can you pa-i-a - find sukh - happiness. bakẖse bakẖsaṇhār - And then that bakẖsaṇhār - the forgiving Waheguru, Akal Purakh will bakhse - forgives us.

Pa▫oṛī||
Dhan Guru Ram Das Ji Maharaj says in the paorinow:

Ŧū āpe āp āp sabẖ karṯā ko▫ī ḏūjā ho▫e so avro kahī▫ai||
You -Tu, ape - yourself, aap - all by yourself, karta - the creator of all. You yourself are the creator of the all. ko▫ī ḏūjā ho▫e so avro kahī▫ai Why is Maharaj Ji says, ape aap aap - 3 times? To stress to us that there is only Akaal Purakh Waheguru who is the creator within its creation. ko▫ī ḏūjā ho▫e; koi duja - if there was any another then I would speak of that avro - other.

Har āpe bolai āp bulāvai har āpe jal thal rav rahī▫ai||
Har āpe bolai /i> - Waheguru Ji is the only one who speaks through us; aap bulavai - the one who causes us to speak. har ape jal thal rav rahi-ai- Waheguru Ji rahi-ai - is within rav - pervading within, jal thal- all the water and the land.

Har āpe mārai har āpe cẖẖodai man har sarṇī paṛ rahī▫ai||
har apa marai - Waheguru Ji himself destroys, har ape chhodai - Waheguru Ji himself saves. man - O my mind, har sarṇī paṛ rahī▫ai - for this reason par - fall to the sarni - the protection of Waheguru.

Har bin ko▫ī mār jīvāl na sakai man ho▫e nicẖinḏ nisal ho▫e rahī▫ai||
har bin koi - Without Waheguru, koi maar jival nasakai - there is no other who can maar - destroy, jival - create, bring to life. man - For this reason O my mind, ho▫e nicẖinḏ- be stress free, nisal - be free of pain, ho▫e rahī▫ai - live in this way. When none other than Akaal Purakh Waheguru can give or take away life, why you worry. The one who is giving you life, when the time comes that Akal Purakh will take it back too. We did not know the time that we were going to come into this world and we do not know the time when we are going to leave. So be carefree. Know that everything is happening is within God’s hands.

uth▫ḏi▫ā bahḏi▫ā suṯi▫ā saḏā saḏā har nām ḏẖi▫ā▫ī▫ai jan Nānak gurmukẖ har lahī▫ai. ||21||1|| suḏẖu||
uth▫ḏi▫ā bahḏi▫ā suṯi▫ā - Whilst standing, whilst sitting, whilst sleeping, saḏā saḏā har nām ḏẖi▫ā▫ī▫ai; sada sada - forever and forever dhi-a-i-ai - meditate upon the name of the Hari, name of Waheguru. jan Nānak Satguru Sri Ram Das Ji Maharaj. The fourth embodiment of Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj says, gurmukẖ har lahī▫ai - by becoming gurmukh by facing towards the Guru and through the grace of the mukhi guru - Guru of all Gurus, Dhan Guru Nanak Sahib har lahi-ai - this is the way you will find Akal Purakh Waheguru. Dhan Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj has put the word sudhu after this, meaning that this vaar is sudhu - that this vaar is complete.

Har bin ko▫ī mār jīvāl na sakai man ho▫e nicẖinḏ nisal ho▫e rahī▫ai
uth▫ḏi▫ā bahḏi▫ā suṯi▫ā saḏā saḏā har nām ḏẖi▫ā▫ī▫ai jan Nānak gurmukẖ har lahī▫ai. ||
