Guru
Arjan Dev Ji speaks to us in Goojaree Raag, a Raag which has a feeling of
seriousness, a feeling that time is passing away and you need to cherish every
moment, you need to realize that time is passing, you need to live each moment.
nadee tarand-rhee
maidaa khoj na khumbhai manjh muhabat tayree ||
tarand-rhee
means to cross; have I crossed the nadee, the ocean or the
stream, the river; maidaa khoj na khumbhai, maidaa means
mine; khoj means look and khumbhai means
to get stuck. Guru Sahib Ji is saying as I cross the river, this world, of thismaya, of this illusion of this universe, of this life,maidaa khoj na khumbhai, my foot or you can say my mind does
not khumbhai get stuck in desires, hatred and ego. Why does
my foot not getting stuck? Why I am not falling into the desires of this ocean,
why I am not into hatred, why I am not falling into ego? Why I am not falling
into greed? Because manjh muhabat tayree, because thismanjh - soul is filled with muhabat
- love; tayree your love. Because I am filled with your love
O Waheguru.

charnee maidaa hee-arhaa seetam har naanak tulhaa bayrhee. ||1||
ta-o
means in your, sah means O Lord, charnee
means feet, maidaa means mine andhee-arhaa means heart and seetam means
attached; O Waheguru my heart is attached to your feet Waheguru. har
naanak tulhaa bayrhee O Hari,
O Waheguru you are the tulhaa - rafter, you are thebayrhee, you are the boat for Nanak to cross across this
ocean of fear. You are my boat, you are my rafter, you are my support to cross
through this ocean.

jinHaa disand-rhi-aa durmat vanjai mitar asaadrhay

Then
Guru Sahib Ji says jinHaa disand-rhi-aa,
by seeing whom, disand-rhi-aa means
to see; durmat vanjai, durmat means evil-mindedness, evil
thoughts that take me away from Waheguru, vanjai means to be
destroyed. Those people upon whom seeing I think only good things, I think only,
thoughts of you Waheguru and not of the world and not of falseness or
falsehood. mitar asaadrhay say-ee Guru Ji
says those asaadrhay means mine; mitar means
friends; they are my friends. They are my only true friends on this earth. Guru
Sahib Ji says they are only your true friends who help you, who bring you out of
the evil-mindedness, who bring you out of falsehood into the truth.
ha-o dhoodhaydee jag
sabaa-i-aa jan naanak virlay kay-ee. ||2||
ha-o
- I, dhoodhaydee - searched, jag - world
and sabaa-i-aa - whole; I have searched the whole world,
everywhere, jan - servant Nanak virlay
kay-ee says, those people are rare. Rarer than diamonds, rarer than
gems, rubies. The most rare on this earth are those people who take us out of
falsehood to the truth.

saahib chit tayri-aa bhagtaa dithi-aa ||
O Waheguru when I dithi-aa - behold, see tayri-aa
means your bhagtaa - means devotees; when I see your
devotees, when I see the ones who are in love with you aavai
saahib chit tayri-aa, you O Waheguru,saahib - O my Lord Master, you come into mychit - mind, my consciousness. O Waheguru when I see those
people who are imbued in love for you
then I remember you. With the grace of those people I remember you through
seeing them, by bowling them.

katee-ai mail saaDhsang vuthi-aa ||
The mail,
the filth which is in your man, in my mind iskatee-ai, is removed, is taken out. How? saDhsang
vuthi-aa, vithi-aa means to go into; when I go into the company ofsaDhsang holy.
janam
maran bha-o
katee-ai jan kaa sabad jap||
Thebha-o - fear of janam maran - birth and
death is katee-ai - is taken away, is removed by doing what?jan kaa sabad jap By meditating upon,jap, the Shabad, the word of the humble servant, of thejan, on the mantar of the Shabad the jan repeats.
banDhan kholniH sant doot sabh jaahi chhap ||
The sant,
the holy ones, saints are the ones who banDhan kholni untie
all of my banDhan, bonds, all of my cages, break open all of
my cages. And all of the doot - demons, the demons within me
of desire, hatred, ego, lust, sabh - all of themjaahi chhap, disappear.
tis si-o
laa-iniH rang jis dee
sabh Dhaaree-aa ||
Those people laa-ini
- means to color in and rang - means color of love;tis si-o with Waheguru. Those people inspire us, they color
us in the love of Waheguru's love. jis dee sabh Dhaaree-aa,
Dhaaree-aa - who has created sabh - everything.
oochee
hooN oochaa thaan agam aapaaree-aa.||
The thaan -
the seat of Waheguru Ji is oochee hooN oochaa - is higher than highest,agam means inaccessible, and aapaaree-aa
who is infinite, that Waheguru.
rain dinas kar jorh saas saas Dhi-aa-ee-ai.||
Those saints inspire us, rain
dinas - day and night, kar jorh - put our hands
together, put our palms together, saas saas - with each
breath, Dhi-aa-ee-ai - meditate upon Waheguru.

aapay ho-ay da-i-aal taaN bhagat sang paa-ee-ai. ||9||
In the last
line Guru Arjan Dev Ji says when Waheguru himself aapay ho-ay
da-i-aal - becomes merciful, taan - then what
happens? bhagat sang paa-ee-ai Then we are
blessed with the company of his saints, of his beloved ones, of hispayaray.
Guru Sahib Ji is saying to us today fall in love with Waheguru.
There is no other love on this earth which is true. And love his devotees, love
the ones who love him because they are our inspiratio.
