Dr. Gurnam Singh is a well-known name in the world of Gurbani music. Born on 17th April 1959, he is the youngest son of the famous Shiromani ragi Bhai Uttam Singh. He belongs to a family of famous Kirtankars, and was introduced to Kirtan at an early age by his father. Later, he went on to study Kirtan under the guidance of the famous Professor Tara Singh Patiala. His passion for Gurbani music led him to pursue a Ph.D. in "A Musicological Study of Guru Nanak Bani" from Punjab University, Chandigarh in 1989. Additionally, he also holds an M.Phil. degree in Punjabi Folk Music & Classical Music from Punjabi University, Patiala (1984), and an M.A. degree in Music Vocal from Punjab University, Chandigarh (1981). As you embark on a soulful journey whilst listening to his music, you will notice that his music style is Classical Vocal, and he specializes in Classical wired instruments and harmoniums. Dr. Gurnam Singh is a highly respected figure in the field of Gurmat Sangeet, and his contributions to the field have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 2017, he was awarded the "Award of Honor" by the Cultural Minister, Bihar on the eve of 350th Prakash Purab celebration of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji at Takht Sri Patna Sahib, Bihar. On top of his commendable achievements, and multiple awards and honors received, Dr. Gurnam Singh also also received the "Best Video Award" for the video album 'MaagnaaMaaganNeekaa' on PTC Music Awards by PTC (2016), and the "Punjab Gharana Sangeet Award" for the contribution in the field of Gurmat Sangeet by Puratan Kala Punjab Gharana Tabla Vadan Sikhya Kendra Society, Hoshiarpur in collaboration with Sangeet Academy, New Delhi (2014). Being a regular performer of Classical Vocal, Light Music, and Gurmat Sangeet since 1979, he is also an "A" Grade artist of Prasar Bharti, Government of India, and has performed special musical presentations in the field of Classical and Light music for Prasar Bharti. He is also an approved artist of All India Radio and T.V. Dr. Gurnam Singh has also contributed to the field of education and is currently the Dean of the Gurmat Sangeet Chair at Punjabi University, Patiala. He has taught Gurbani music to numerous students, and many of them have gone on to become prominent figures in the field of Gurbani music. His contribution to Gurbani music is immense, and his passion for the art form is evident in his performances. His music not only touches the heart, but also the soul, and he continues to inspire generations with his music.
