Best way to learn Gurmukhi

Post by PhluteMan »

I don't come from a Sikh family and am struggling with learning Gurmukhi. Through apps I have gotten pretty good at the script and am beginning to be able to read it slowly. None of the apps seem very helpful for continuing to learn. I was thinking I may start with a verse of Gurbani and learn to read it and write it and dissect each of the word's meaning on my own. Does this seem like a good way to learn? I want to learn it to read Gurbani not like have a conversation in Punjabi (although that would be nice) so seems like this may be the best approach. Another question though is what are good sources to find meanings of different words rather than using someone else's translation? Any advice would be appreciated.
