Can Sikhs Hunt?

Post by Guest »

Guru Hargobind Maharaj and Guru Gobind Singh ji hunted. The reason why Guru Gobind Singh ji hunted was to get the Singhs to practice killing a moving object, and to be tyar bar tyar if a war comes. In that sense even today we need to be tyar bar tyar and just shooting a bulls eye target isn't going to help, Killing a moving animal prepares you for a real life war scenario, that is why Guru ji did it. So wouldn't it be okay to do it today as well? Because the reason why Guru ji and the SInghs did it was to practice killing a moving animal so they could be tyar bar tyar if they had to fight. In that sense we Sikhs today have to be tyar bar tyar too because you never know when a war can occur and shooting a moving animal will prepare you to shoot a moving enemy.
Apologies if I said anything wrong.

We need to look at the ecology too. Humans never became such a great threat to environment and ecology like they have become today. Imagine a country of Tigers like India where the population of tigers ran in some hundred thousands has been reduced to a mere two thousand. In Guruji's case we are talking about 3-4 centuries back where the animals actually imposed a lot of existential threat to human beings hence hunting was a well accepted norm at that time, but the times have changed with Human beings invading even inhabitable land, deforestation peaking and terrible results of Global warming being felt in every corner of the World, we need to take care of ecology. As a Sikh we must refrain from doing hunting now and must realize our collective responsibility.

Even the laws of Wars have also turned upside down with Guns, bombs and rocket launchers in use during wars less of physical force is required, instead young lads must be given martial training or physical training so that they can defend themselves up. Like Hand-to-hand, fist-to-fist combat and competitions can be organized. Even Guru Angad Dev use to organize the Kushti Akhaadas as the Gurus always emphasized physical fitness an essential thing of life. But if u ask specifically about hunting then we must change as per the requirement of the time. An example, Like many Sikhs living in Urban areas have started clipping their beards as in this global scenario it's really tough to keep flowing beard when going to Job, So when this can be done why not the habit of hunting.

Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh

Practice to hunt five thieves kaam (lust), krodh (rage), lobh (greed), moh (attachment) and ahankar (conceit). Tyar bar tyar all times to protect our self from these thieves.

To protect from human learn love, marshal art and go to shooting range to get tyar bar tyar.

Thanks!

You can not follow one aspect of Guru's life as per your convenience. Where is the followup of present law of the land? Instead of practicing hunting of moving animals (which are already reducing in population) why don't u do the same on moving humans, if you so dying to practice for! I guess thats not convenient!

Get a life bro.
