I hope no one takes this the wrong way. I am not against this or anything. It was just a thought that crossed my mind.

If we can do paat ourselves at home. Translate and learn from it at home. What is the main point in attending or going to gudwhara sahib?

Good question. I think the answer is Sangat. There's a power to being in a group of people who pray together. When you go to the gurdwara and everybody is chanting Waheguru in unison, there is such a powerful energy to it! It also helps you focus. You can learn from each other. You can learn from the kathas that the Gyani Ji explains. It's about being around like-minded people who have the same goal. People say you should surround yourself with people that you want to be like and I think about Sangat in the same way. It's like support to get to your goal of being one with God.

Saroop of our Guru resides in the Gurdwara, would we not want to present ourselves in front of our Guru and do nimaskaar?

Gurbani Kirtan is sung in the Gurdwara, would we not want to go listen to it ?

Guru resides in the sadh sangat and where can you find sandh sangat? At the Gurdwara.

Aasaa, Fifth Mehla: Ang 12
This human body has been given to you.
This is your chance to meet the Lord of the Universe.
Nothing else will work.
Join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; vibrate and meditate on the Jewel of the Naam. ||1||
Make every effort to cross over this terrifying world-ocean.
You are squandering this life uselessly in the love of Maya. ||1||Pause||
I have not practiced meditation, self-discipline, self-restraint or righteous living.
I have not served the Holy; I have not acknowledged the Lord, my King.
Says Nanak, my actions are contemptible!
O Lord, I seek Your Sanctuary; please, preserve my honor! ||2||4||

Siree Raag Mahala Tija. Ang 29
The True Guru has revealed to him the Treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord; he drinks in the Sublime Essence of the Lord, and is satisfied. ||3||
Whoever has found it, has done so in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. Through perfect good fortune, such balanced detachment is attained.
The self-willed manmukhs wander around lost, but they do not know the True Guru. They are inwardly attached to egotism.
O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Shabad are dyed in the Color of the Lord's Name. Without the Fear of God, how can they retain this Color? ||4||8||41||

Singh ji a lot of emphasis is given to doing "Sadh Sangat" in Gurbani.

Congregation of Holy is generally found inside a Gurdwara.

Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh

Gurdwara is like a school. Do you think if children don’t go to school and just learn from books by self is enough to make them good doctor, engineer or other professional? Answer is no. First of all small kids don’t want to learn from their parents and themselves. We go school and encouraged with our friends and do some practical experience before implementing teachings in our real life and then keep our practice and study continues to update our learning.

Same way we go Gurdwara, do sangat, do seva, sing gurbani with all sangat and learn to accommodate all walk of people good or bad, high or low with equality. We get encourage from good people and want to change if there is anything bad. Then we implement these teachings in our day to day life.

Gurdwara is like a school, Guru is our teacher, reading gurbani at home is like presentation preparation before dealing with real world or assignment or research, dealing with others is our exam. After day to day exam if we are in blissful life, no problem, no doubts, no stress, loving person then we pass otherwise fail.

Hope this will help you.

Thanks

gurdwara has become a meeting place for sikhs like a church for christians. it depends what for you got to gurdwara. if u go to gurdwara for getting your demands fulfilled. it is so silly that you donate one unit and want a million. God or gurdwara does not fulfill demands. if u go to gurdwara to learn then you have to be very attentive to listen to what the ragi is singing aor pathi is reading. but most of the time by the time you think about one sentence they are already gone five more. so think what you can learn. So how much you can learn. so on so forth

Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh

Swarn Bains Ji, This is not true for all Gurdwaras and with all sikhs. My words are little straight, forgive me.

We learned lot of things from Gurdwara. Few examples:-

1. From Gudwara we encouraged to learn keertan. Now our all friend circle kids learn keertan and some of them sing very nice classical keertan.

2. We feel now seva is our responsibility not just casual seva once while.

3. We started to sing keertan along sangat in Gurdwara and feel blessed. These days most Gurdwara have shabad slides to read along and understand meaning.

4. One day I asked one veerji why you parked your car so away and he replied, just I want sangat get easily parking place. This small thing explained me meaning of greatness.

5. I saw lots of people started wearing dumala these days including kids and ladies. These encouragements come from Sadh Sangat in Gurdwara.

6. We feel kids are connected with our Gurmat culture in Gurdwara.

7. Lot of people discussion main topic is Gurbani in Gurdwara and they want solutions of their life from gurbani.

May be some person use Gurdwara as meeting place, but definitely that day will come when some spiritual vibration will change their life, which is not happen by sitting at home. Lots of people don’t have time and interest to read and understand Gurbani, but in Gurdwara gurmat culture and vibration of spiritual soul teach them purpose of life.

We feel blissful in that place or house or Gurdwara where we find Sangat of devotion and love. It’s not ragi but its vibration of sangat’s devotion and love which makes that environment great, blissful and blessed. With these vibrations we can find Guru Nanak because Guru Nanak lives in gurbani and sangat. If you find someone with tears in Gurdwara is sitting in sangat then that person if full of greatness and his vibration is impacting other people sitting over there.

Thanks!
