Turban material/tutorial for newbie

Post by Nimue2 »

Hello,

I am a white female new to Sikhi and have been as of late seriously contemplating wearing a turban. I think I should do so in my home then try out in public, so see how I feel.

I am living in China, so being white already gains me stares. But I am Sikh. And I feel I should show that as well. Does anyone know of where I can get turban tutorial and material imported into China?

Thank you for your time

Hello sister,
First of all gd on u for tryign to tie a turban...
Firstly u should go to ur nearest gurduwara-sikh temple to ask what type of material will suit u. I usealy ie mulmul-Really thick cloth. My dumala-turban useally looks really perfect if u cant find a sikh temple nearby then go and ask some of sikhs they will probably know or they might even teach u
Good luck!

Hello,

Unfortunately in China there are no visible religious buildings or objects. The government has a long history of being very selective of their tolerance.

I am a foreigner and working in China. But this hasnt prevented me from following the path of Sikhi. I am alone here. I have no one else to my knowledge. I use online, english translations and youtube - all accessed through an illegal VPN (but China allows companies to use them for business).

So for a newbie where should I start? I could go to a fabric store and purchase material. Most easily available would be cotton.

If you are living near a Gurdwara then visit there. They will help you to learn - how to tie a turban.
But if you are living far from Gurdwara then you can first buy a turban cloth like full voile, malmal or rubia etc. watch the youtube video - how to tie a turban?

If you want to buy turban cloth online then you can buy it from various websites. I mostly buy from https://www.ehutty.com/ . they provide worldwide shipping.
