SPGC has taken firm control of Gurudwaras. They firmly defined who can vote and who can serve in SPGC. A recent Panjab Supreme Court case about the definition of a "Sikh" is a case in point. This case involved caste-based quota system for admission to Guru Ram Das Medical College. Even though most o...

Re: Caste System: Are Sikhs hypocrite?

It is hard to sweep under the rug, Sikhs practice caste system. Unfortunately, caste system is more pervasive among Sikhs living abroad. It gets worse, they won't admit it! Most Jatts won't approve the marriage of their sons or daughters to matches from groups they consider inferior. There is a clea...

Re: Doctor vs lawyer

You do not have to decide this right now. Take basic courses during the first two years and then decide depending on your talents. After your B.A. you will have to law school or medical anyway. However, for medical school you need more Biology and Chemistry and for law school you need to take more P...

Re: Help Needed

Re: Want advise and prayer

It will take courage to address this problem. Select a group involving respectable men and woman from his village and your village and tell them that he is spreading false rumors about you. Calmly explain to this group what he has said and to whom. For this you need witnesses who are honest and trus...

Re: Criticism of Sikhism on Wikipedia

Teghbeer Ji, I am sure you are putting up a good fight to eliminate falsehoods from the narrative. Almost all religions receive criticism. Most of the criticism is about the practice vs. the scriptures. There is no uniform method for practicing Sikhism except Rehat. Not all Sikhs follow Rehat or tak...

Re: Austin

Jasmine, I know Austin area. I have been in San Marcos, near Austin, for a long time. Yes, there is a Sikh community in Austin. Gurudwara is quite a distance away from UT campus. I am out town for a while. Let us hope someone else can help you. Good luck.

At fifteen, submerge yourself in your studies and sports. You are a sangat of one with Guru's grace. But most importantly: Be Yourself.
