Re: son wishes a haircut
Do Ardas for him. I read a story once online about a girl belonging to a Gursikh family who one day trimmed her hair. Her father on seeing this said nothing to her but did Ardas. One day when she went to her Gurudwara she saw a vision, after which she decided to keep her hair again. It is difficult ...

Re: Non-indian Sikh
Sorry I am not non-Indian, however our community is sadly very fragmented, and opposite of what our Guru Ji intended it would seem. We modern time Sikhs favour those of our own cast, those of our own social status, or those within our own family circle etc, and the list goes on and on until one feel...

Re: Very stuck on a decision I must make..
Please let me expand on my previous post. Parents are not born parents, and being a parent is as much a learning process as is being a child. Hence parents do not always make the right choices for their children. You sound a very mature individual. I wish I had your maturity when I was your age, and...

Your parents may be objecting to your career choice and not your job choice, ie you moving abroad rather than your becoming a teacher? Maybe you can compromise for the time being...

Re: Please don't judge me
I have no family. My mum fell pregnant with me unmarried, married my dad when she was 4 months pregnant and then they divorced when I was about a year old. When I was about 3/4 years old, she had an arranged marriage and we moved to Birmingham, after a month she called some friends and we ran away....

Re: Sikhs/Punjabis Giving children Christian/Jewish names
Had there been no importance of name for Sikhs nor it had any impact on personality then Singh and Kaur suffix would have not been made compulsory for Sikhs by Guru Ji. Here is an excellent video which sums it all up for me. Importance of Your Sikh Name: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MTDtEyonEA

Re: Sikhs/Punjabis Giving children Christian/Jewish names
A persons name is very important. I feel it has an impact on a persons personality. I have seen boys called Pinkie. What sort of positive impact is that likely to have? Westerners are unable to pronounce some Indian names. I often have trouble with mine. If I say it properly a western person is unab...

Re: I do not belong anywhere..
Sunny1978 Ji, you are not alone. No matter what, when one is in the minority it is not a good feeling. I can totally relate to how you feel. We are the result of our circumstances. Some of us are comfortable being in the ethnic minority, others are not so comfortable. I know I have never felt comfor...
