Elisabeth Meru
Elisabeth Meru is a very unique individual. She was born in Hamburg, Germany and now lives in Munich. The Guru's miracle manifested in her life after 24 years spent searching for God when she visited the Gurdwara in Munich, Germany for the first time and first heard Gurbani Kirtan.
"Her loyalties to the passengers of the aircraft in distress will forever be a lasting tribute to the finest qualities of the human spirit". [Ashok Chakra citation]
I think change is coming. This was reflected in the Film Festival. Despite the Guru’s teachings, Sikh culture is largely male dominated. I think Sikh women have had enough.
[VIDEO] It's the closest you can come to immortality. "Running is what keeps me alive. Otherwise I would have been dead."
My name is Rupy Kaur, I am 26 and was born with Cerebral Palsy. I have been inspired massively to make a difference by doing something personally very challenging.
This was the fourth year of Khalsa Camp BC. It was very impressive to see how the camp has grown and developed over the years. The camp was well organised and the atmosphere was inspirational!
What kept the young sons of Guru Gobind Singh, ages 7 and 9, steadfast in their faith? So steadfast that they shook the Mughal regime by not giving an inch against all temptation and terror?
....a man who was one of the Punj Piaray (the beloved and revered group of five) to lead the parade in 1997 and 1998 is likely to be walking along, inconspicuously this time.
This comic book provides a thorough and comprehensive account of Guru Harkrishan Ji’s short life and thus provides a variety of lessons about the legacy of the “child Guru”.
Recitation of Janamsakhis or birth stories of the Guru and imbibing their message is an integral part of the Sikh’s life. Merely listening to a Janamsakhi — is like ‘janam saphala karna’;
YES, YOU ARE THERE FOR ME!
Speaking words of kindness will make your lips attractive Looking for good in others will make your eyes beautiful and active
We Sikhs are rightly castigated for not having made the world know of the spirit and examples of sacrifice by the sikh Gurus and their followers. People say One Jesus died according to the New Testament and his followers made this a major plank of their faith, but the Sikhs have not done so despite innumerable sacrifices
In the latest edition of "O The Oprah Magazine", Oprah wrote about loving Snatam Kaur (she plays her music everyday before meditation) and having a surprise Snatam concert for her birthday. Her dear friend Maria Shriver arranged for Snatam to come in and sing for her, including her favorite "Ong Namo". Oprah wrote on hearing Snatam sing, "It's a moment I'll savor forever."
Sweeping the carpet at the Khalsa Diwan in Hong Kong Only inches away from the Guru Granth Sahib Caught For an instant Like a raindrop in a warm leaf The Gurus’ grace.
He said that Singh has been a source of inspiration for him since college days. Recalling his college days, when he was taking swimming classes, Mehra said that his coach often narrated stories of Milkha Singh's struggle, his hard work and dedication towards training despite all odds.
Long noted for the effortless grace and mellifluous lyricism of his acoustic guitar work, GuruGanesha has turned his talents to his first love, the electric guitar, to ignite the incandescent sound of the GuruGanesha Band.
In becoming an artist the course I have taken is perhaps circuitous. Though I create what is accepted as artworks in the traditional understanding it is my interaction with communities that most profoundly informs my art practice.
What happens when I begin to see hypocrisy, jealousy, anger in those who I most respected and considered to be MY panthic leaders? What happens when I see my “brothers” dishonoring my sisters? What happens when I see my role models talk shit, or bully, or straight up ignore those who have fallen off the path instead of helping them back up?
And every now and then, on the more difficult days when I feel like I am drowning in my worries... A shabad will find me, reach out its hand...and pull me out I often wonder...why did Guru Sahib give us his baani?
YES, MY DREAM HAS COME TO PLACE I THANK HIM FOR THE SOLACE AND AS WE ALL LOOK AT HIM, THE INFINITE, WE UNITEDLY SPEAK........ONLY YOU, WAHEGURU! YES........ONLY YOU !!!
In a perfect world, it is often said, people of all faiths would embrace each other and celebrate their common humanity.
Rise as a host of messiahs and overwhelm the hosts of darkness, hatred and revenge; and free man from the misery of his little self both here and the hereafter.
Today at work I checked Facebook right before lunch and my wife had posted this picture of my sons on facebook. Whenever I see Sikh Children in dastaars I get reminded of Baba Zorawar and Baba Fateh Singh. It makes me realize that these kids are sons of Guru Gobind Singh.
“Wow, you make me ashamed to call myself a Sikh!” This is usually followed by a monologue that makes me feel a bit like a priest sitting in confession with a churchgoer.
Its not fliers, lectures or a million dollar campaigns that are going to help people understand who Sikhs are and stop being hurtful towards the turban, It is going to be each Sikh wearing their turban with pride and being extra kind and clearing up misunderstandings of the people around them.
Though Sikhs have settled all around the world, roughly 20 million Sikhs still reside in Punjab where Sikhs are facing serious problems including farmer suicide, female infanticide, drugs and alcohol abuse, domestic violence, economic disasters, disease, poverty, illiteracy, and much more.
One is wonder struck at the effectiveness of Guru Nanak's communication. Whomsoever he communicated with, the impact was instant and positive whether with relatives & friends, employers, religious leaders, kings and their ministers, or the ordinary people in Punjab, in India and around the world.
Bann de manje
Some who were gathered near the Family Activities tent noticed the sorry state of the bann de manja. Within minutes, cots that might have had to be junked after the 2010 Festival were as good as new.
FaujaSingh
A thin frame weighing 52 kgs, nearly 6 ft in height, with a flowing silver beard,...watching a sprightly Fauja on the track is a bewitching sight-incredulous and inspiring.
