Sikhwithin is an Audio Podcast that has been running since January 2006. Delivered in English, as free service (seva), its aims are to express our life’s importance in believing in Waheguru (wonderful Lord), sharing knowledge about Sikhism - through thoughts focused on honest living and equality for humanity.
Over the last few weeks Sikhwith have developed a new show format and website. Within the next few days the latest episode of Sikhwithin will be released.
The new site is accessible from http://www.sikhwithin.com together with current and previous podcasts from: http://www.kh-2.com/mp3-sw/wimpy.php
Why has the format change from Episode 15?
Dr Savi, the shows presenter says that it was felt that there was a need to introduced additional interactivity and an audio magazine format (including where possible outside broadcast elements).
From Episode 15 onwards each show will follows the following format:
1. Understanding Sikhism
2. History of the Sikhs
3. Shabad Translations
4. Resource Review - incorporating:
- Book of the month (readings / reviews / recommendations)
- Music Reviews/New Music (inc: the featuring of many up and coming artists)
5. Sikh News & Feedback (in association with Sikhnet, Sikhspeak and other reliable news sources)
6. Outside Coverage (if attended) - Bringing you recordings of events.
7. Inspirational thoughts, songs or phrases
Dr Savi added, that with the new website the programme is now effectively extended with a centralised Portal/blog site and associated tools, for example: Forums, links and online players. You can hear all the previous shows online too.
In terms of the licensing rules for Podcasters, it was only between August and September 2006 that both the Mechanical Copyright Protection Society (MCPS) and Performance Rights Society (PRS) issued the shared Limited Podcasting Exploitation License - Known as LPEL, Sikhwithin have paid for this license. In reality this means song writers and performers copyright and royalties will be protected. This is achieved by the terms of the license through reporting and monitoring featured tracks and protecting them from the possibility of being ripped.
What does it take to develop a Podcast?
With any quality production it is important to research, accredit, script and perform both pre and post production work. Sikhwithin always quote resources used and also seek permission for communicating externally media/content.
In terms of items needed, these range from the software skills, computer hosting and
investment in good quality recording equipment with associated editing tools.
Although increasingly today more tools are available to develop podcasts it is important to focus on accuracy, frequency and informative content. We hope to follow these aims with an underlying goal to use the content developed to help facilitate peace between all of humanity.
How much does each show cost ? ($£!)
Sikhwithin is delivered as Seva (service) - Free of charge.
Sikhwithin can be supported by clicking on their ADSENSE Google advertisements on the bottom of each page: NB: Revenue generated will go to Charity. Direct contribution can also be made at the new site.
Recently Sikhwithin were featured by BBC World Radio on a programme focused on the religious podcasting.
Sikhwithin hope to continue to provide a service that is another bridge to Sikhism together with improving the facilitation of interfaith respect.
