Langar London 2008.
The inspiration for the Langar London project was Gurubachan Singh Khalsa who visited London in February 2008 and encouraged the ProjectNaad team and its growing volunteer base to put Sikh Dharmic wisdom into practice by serving the needy people of London city. GuruBachan Singh and HarmanderJot visiting London to inspire the young Sikh community to do seva for the needy GuruBachan Singh sharing his wisdom with a group of young Sikhs in London Yogi Bhajan once said that the majority of people are not interested in learning about God or philosophy or anything even remotely esoteric. The only thing that everyone wants to know is “When’s Lunch”! Guru Nanak Dev Ji and the subsequent Gurus used the basic concept of sharing food to create a simple spiritual lifestyle based on community involvement, sharing, working together, equality and helping the needy. The langar cooking volunteers making chapattis at Shepherds Bush Gurdwara Our first Langar seva was at HeatherLodge which is a Mental Health Institute in East London. With Gurus grace we served a total of 20 people coming from all backgrounds and who were grateful for the langar seva. Everyone was eager for the Sikh community to ensure that Langar London becomes a regular event. Waheguru!
