A Call for a Bay Area Sikh Teen to be Ambassador of Sikhi at International Film Festival

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

My name is Angad Singh and I want your help.

Tomorrow (Saturday, May 16) One Light screens in Bay Area California at Danville International Children’s Film Festival (DICFF). Hundreds in audience will learn about Sikhi and Guru Nanak, yet one more time. In the past screenings the audience had lots and lots of questions on Sikhi. They were both surprised and enlightened to learn about such an egalitarian faith contrary to the first impression they get seeing a Sikh in the bana.

Q&A session at the end of the screening is the most powerful way to connect to the audience and impress upon them t he peaceful message of Guru Nanak. I have made it in person to all previous screenings and thousands have learned about Sikhs and Sikh Identity so far.

But this time, I am not able to go. My Mom is in violation of GA state laws by exhausting all excused and unexcused absence days off of my school. My grades have suffered and I have final exams next week. Not to mention all the previous make up home works.

But Guru Nanak’s Sikhs are dispensable. You can replace me. If you are a Gursikh teenager in the Bay Area who has no stage fear and are passionate about the philosophy of Guru Nanak Dev Ji; I want you to replace me this weekend.

One Light has already been nominated as one of the two finalists in the category of ‘Best Young Documentary’ at DICFF. Your stage presence and interaction can make it a the award winner besides educating the people about us.

You will get an experience of the life time, while enjoying other selected films from around the world. Who knows you will make you own film this summer? I have two full access VIP passes, I can reserve for you and a parent if you want to be an ambassador of Guru Nanak at this film festival. You will be able to attend red carpet gala complete with food and entertainment.

All you have to do is go through my blogspot, watch One Light a couple of times and spend an hour reviewing the material I will send you and talking to me. I will personally coach you over the phone. But you have to do it today, since I have to give your name by today. Oh yes, and you have to convince your parent to support you.

Remember Guru Nanak Dev Ji travelled millions of miles and took billions of steps to take the message of oneness of humanity to the world. Won’t you take yours? It’s the need of the time; it’s the purpose of our existence.

    With Love and Hope,
    Angad Singh
