Are my New Age Roots Showing? Nov. 11th and the Age of Aquarius

Wahe Guru Ji Ka Khalsa, Wahe Guru Ji Ki Fateh.

Today is November 11th, 2005. It is a date that I have looked forward to and dreaded all at the same time. One mustn’t believe in astrology, I understand. But still – here we are- about to go into the last seven year cycle in the transition between the ages.

When Yogi Bhajan first came to the United States in the late 1960’s, there was a lot of singing and talking about the Aquarian Age. There’s even a musical – Hair – with an entire song dedicated to the theme. While pop culture has forgotten about the fact that we are going through a cusp period between two ages (the Piscean and the Aquarian) – in our little corner of the world, it is a subject that Yogi Bhajan taught about at length. And the key theme he repeated over and over again was: Look – the transition time is going to be difficult, people are going to go crazy. You have to be in a position to help them, to serve them, to teach them, to heal them. If you can’t reach out and help elevate someone from their pain and misery, who is going to do it?

Stars and planets, zodiac ages and the center of the galaxy. It is for every individual to decide for themselves whether the Hukam which guides creation can be understood through the stars. There is the One Creator behind it all, guiding it according to Divine Will. And as Guru Nanak says in Japji Sahib – no one can talk about what that Hukam is – although everything is contained within it.

For myself, because today starts the last seven year cycle in the transition between the ages, I do want to share with all of you a little bit of what he shared with us. Because deep in my heart, I believe it is important.

The cusp period between the Piscean Age and the Aquarian Age began on Nov. 11th 1991 and will last until Nov. 11th, 2012. There are three seven-year cycles during this 21-year cusp. The third seven year cycle (which begins today) will be the most difficult. During this time, a “White Depression” will fall on humanity – a depression that has no source or cause. The nervous system is transforming, an evolutionary change is taking place and it will create a tremendous amount of pressure within the human being. Those people with a spiritual discipline, with a strong sadhana, will be able to handle and integrate the changes that humanity is going through. Those who have no discipline or sadhana will freak out – and it is going to be a difficult time.

The evolutionary change that we are undergoing and will continue to undergo in the next two thousand years is a transformation into Sensory humans. In the past two thousand years, we have used the human existence to hustle and hassle, to grab and to get, to exploit one another and conquer one another, and this has been our way of survival.

But as sensory humans, the meditative mind is the power. With a meditative mind, we will have the strength to wait and see what comes to us, in the will of the Creator. And that meditative awareness will guide us so that we meet the right people at the right time, for the right purposes.

"We’ll master ourselves through our service, through our character, through our commitment, and the most powerful thing which people have—our grace. Our individual grace is the most wanted today. And our projection, which will give us satisfaction, fulfillment, and exaltation, is our nobility. We will act noble, gracious, kind, and compassionate. These are our essential features." – Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogiji, August 1, 2000.

That change in time and space – where people will long to live by the light and purity of the soul, rather than living by hustling and hassling and mental manipulations, is the bridge that we are crossing right now. The Siri Singh Sahib told us that the Siri Guru Granth Sahib, the Shabad Guru, was the Guru for the Aquarian Age. Because through the Shabad Guru, every human being has the possibility to develop a meditative mind, where one can to awaken himself or herself to live in an awareness and flow of the Divine.

For those of you who enjoy reading the vignettes that I write, I know that usually I like to write about Sikh philosophy in the context of what has come before, in the context of what is known. I beg your indulgence that, for today at any rate, I am writing about Sikh Dharma in the context of what has yet to come.

In the Name of the Cosmos which prevails through everyBODY and the Holy Naam which holds the world.

All love in the Divine,

Ek Ong Kaar Kaur Khalsa
