More than 150 participants from around the world and across Canada are in Regina at the Canada Games Athletic Complex for the four-day event, which ends Sunday.

“It’s for older people to still be involved in track and field – it’s fun, its healthy and its something you can keep doing,” said 71-year-old Carol LaFayette-Boyd, one of the local organizers, who is also competing.

"I feel very happy with how it went," Man Kaur, a 98-year-old athlete from India, added through her son and translator....source

“I’m going to be running relay with three 80-year-olds.”

The event has all the normal track and field events – races, sprints, relay, hurdles, shot-put, discus and javelin – and is held in a different city each year.

LaFayette-Boyd, who started doing the event at 50, says the oldest participant this year is a 98-year-old woman from India who is taking part in four races – the 100 up to 400-meter dash.

“I mean I am surprised because I am 71 and I am not running a 400-meter,” said LaFayette-Boyd.

There is also a 94-year-old woman who will be throwing the discus and javelin, sprints and even do the high-jump.

“It is (crazy),” said LaFayette-Boyd, “but they say she has a body of a 60-year-old.”
