Fifty years ago, no Sikh American formally participated in the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s March on Washington.

This year is different.

On behalf of Sikh Americans across the U.S., SALDEF Executive Director Jasjit Singh spoke Saturday from the very spot of Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington. He addressed tens of thousands of Americans in reaffirming the Sikh American commitment to civil rights for all:

Singh shared with stage with civil rights leaders including Martin Luther King III, Rev. Al Sharpton, Rep. John Lewis, Julian Bond, Jesse Jackson, Attorney General Eric Holder, and Mayor Cory Booker.
