Vaisakhi Redux

Inder Jit Singh

Who should attend?
Teens and adults with an interest in gaining a deeper understanding of the history of Vaisakhi and its role as a foundation of Sikhi. This presentation is designed to be an active and exciting exploration of the religious and political roots of the contemporary celebration we take part in today.

What is the presentation about?
VAISAKHI 1699 didn’t happen suddenly in a vacuum. What was it about the two centuries preceding 1699 that created the historic moment? It really is a story of your and my people, our families, and finally, about you and me. Can the many strands of our worldwide Sikh presence across the globe come together in the substance and message of Vaisakhi? The idea of this webinar is to mine some nuggets in the journey to identify the destination.

Who is the presenter?
I.J. Singh is a professor of Anatomical Sciences at NYU. He has authored four collections of essays on his journey as a Sikh in North America. He serves on the Boards of Sikh Research Institute, Sikh Review and United Sikhs.  He has lectured extensively on interfaith issues.
