Rashpal Kaur Performs Gatka on Zee TV's 'Dance India Dance'

April 30th, 2009 Source: www.emgonline.co.uk

After a memorable performance by on Zee TV last year, Rashpal Kaur - a young girl from Chandigarh - has recently performed Gatka on Zee TV's Dance India Dance - reality show.

The judges were not only taken aback by her performance, but also by the adversity she had experienced.  Rashpal discovered that she had a life threatening brain tumor when she was pregnant.  The treatment she received took away her vision but she was able to deliver a healthy baby boy.

As an ancient martial art, Gatka  is considered a spiritual as well as physical exercise.  It’s an inspiring example of how one can turn pain into something much more powerful.  You can view Rashpal’s performance after the jump.

“I only wished that I could see my son once. I just ask God to lend me my eyesight back for just for three hours so that I can see my child just once,” Rashpal said. But this is one wish that has never got fulfilled for Rashpal.

Rashpal said she is thankful to Dance India Dance for helping me to reach out to so many people. The citizens have shown so much concern and care for me. Before I die I want to do something for my guru Kuljeet-ji and his martial arts school where he teaches young girls about self defense. In today’s times when women are being molested and victimized every other day, I want all the women to learn this martial art form to defend themselves and their dignity.”

Guru Sahai, I have no words. Never seen anything like this.

Bibi Rashpal Kaur

Bibi Rashpal Kaur – I feel so proud of you! What you demonstrated was really a miracle of ingenuity. Just fantastic! I hope you will inspire both girls and boys to learn this martial art of the Sikhs. Especially these days when boys and girls are drifting away from the Sikh faith – they smoke, they drink and most dangerous of all they use drugs and so on – they really need some one to look up to. Let you be their idol. Once mastered this martial art, I hope no one will ever dare to molest women and girls. If molested, I hope they will be able to defend their honour with dignity. This should apply to boys also. May Waheguru give you a long life so that you may be able to inspire so many people, women and girls in particular, to take up this martial art. Very sad to read that you have lost your eyesight. Would it not be possible for you to visit e.g. Hemkund Sahib? It is said that after a visit to Hemkund Sahib, many miraculous things happen. May by the grace of Waheguru, your vision one day will be restored and you will be able to see your beloved son. I for one will pray for you. God bless you. Not very long ago I read an article at Sikhi Wiki entitled: Miracle of Japji. In short I can write that the woman was suffering from a disease called fibromyalgia. This disease incapacitated her in many ways – just to name one handicap: she could hardly lift her arms for 11 seconds above her head! By listening and reading Japji Sahib, her life was completely changed – so much so that she could hold her arms above her head for 11 mins.! Please read the article. God bless you once again.

Gatka

Rashpal Kaur has been able to perform a wonderful piece through her determination, love for Gatka, hard work and support from her family and teachers. It was joy to see her performance. I would like all Sikh youths to learn from this and be models for excellence. I would also like to request the eye specialists to help Rashpaul to get her vision back.
