ode to all my (kaur) hair

this is for those darker kaurs with thick black hair on our bodies....

ode to all my (kaur) hair

in trying to reconcile my identities as a diasporic sikh, punjabi kaur, brown person/woman of color in the US, an immigrant, third-culture kid, youth, graduate student, daughter, sister, friend, community organizer, and a spiritual being living a human experience, I have come to find language as a place of struggle and liberation (see bell hooks "choosing the margins as a space of radical openness). it is from this space that I decided to take back my power to create and wrote this poem.

this is for those darker kaurs with thick black hair on our bodies. who don't find liberation calling our hair a
'hormonal problem' or in narratives of sikhi without the non-compliance and the struggle.
