COMMUNICATIONS and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo was the guest-of- honour at a fundraising dinner organised by the Malaysian Armed Forces Sikh Veterans Association (MAFSVA).

Themed “Service and Sacrifice Since 1873 of Sikhs in the Police and Armed Forces of Malaysia”, the dinner was attended by 350 veterans, well-wishers and donors.

...Organising committee vice-chairman Lt Kol Mohan Singh Rendhawa said, “I grew up in Penang and studied in Jelutong, the territory of the famous ‘Tiger of Jelutong’ Karpal Singh. I know the family very well. I remember the sacrifices that he and his family members made over the years.”

There was a screening of a 20-minute documentary produced and directed by organising chairman Major Harjit Singh Rendhawa to educate the younger generation on the role and sacrifices of the Sikhs in the security and defence of Malaya and later Malaysia.

Another presentation was designed to educate the youth on the sacrifices and roles played by second and third-generation Malaysian Sikhs during the Malayan Emergency and on overseas peacekeeping missions.
