Kundalini Yoga was brought to America and first time taught publicly by Yogi Bhajan in 1969, who himself practiced Sikhism. Regardless of that fact, many Kundalini Yoga practices are deeply rooted in Sikhism. For example, the majority of mantras are from the Siri Guru Grant Sahib, and many Kundalini Yoga practices, such as – waking up in the early morning to read Japji and meditate-are the same for Sikhs. Becoming a Sikh is not required for practicing Kundalini Yoga. But many people are influenced by the devotional aspects of Kundalini Yoga and do become Sikhs as a result of their yoga practice. Many take Amrit at the end of Summer Solstice at the Gurdwara, which is considered to be one of the most highly elevated places in United States for taking Amrit. Summer Solstice is a perfect example of the event where people from different paths meet and happily practicie yoga at the same time as many practice Sikhism. Sikhism is not imposed on anyone at Summer Solstice but it’s influence is found everywhere and people get educated and participate in Sikh’s rituals and prayers.

Almost all of us dictate this statement to others or assert the same within our minds. But the parameters with which we tag ourselves as Sikh have been defined according to our personal comfort. What if we get confronted to a real evaluation based on actual parameters, defined by Guru and not by us? How many of us will be able to pass that appraisal? ‘Garry’ is the best employee, most recognized and appreciated project lead in an IT company. Living a life where his busy office schedule, late night parties and other preoccupations don’t leave with enough to do Path or visit Gurudwara. But that is anyways not so important for him. He has his own views about Sikhism and he is sure that he is a Sikh. Whether his views are right or he does not even qualify for evaluation as a Sikh. If not, then what?

During this time in my life, I was at the tail end of four difficult years of health issues. My soul wanted and needed to be victorious. I wanted so much to plug deeper into my practice and to do teacher training which I completed this past spring. I am now teaching and in such a great place with my health and well being. The five Sutras for the Aquarian age are such a gift from Yogi Bhajan and the yogi’s who came before him. The making of this video was a gift from the cosmos! There was so much synchronisity! My friend James who is a Broadway Dancer had a moment between shows to act in my video. A great clothing designer named Chay$TheGreat got on board with willingness and costumes. The day I filmed there was a wonderful female boxer who I interviewed named The Glamour Hammer who brought forth such a great interview that I could frame the video around it. My musician friends gave me an amazing afternoon of friendship and music as we crafted the music spontaneously for the video. It was a smooth and brilliant path. Sat Nam!

This is the story of the insignificant boy transformed by a drop of blood. Torn away from everything and everyone he cherished, he would be sought after, cut, burned, poisoned and starved. He would survive all this and more.

The boy would grow into a man; A man who would embrace the lion within himself and step forward to challenge the hearts of men.

The legend of Shiarv Singh Gove is a tale of triumph and failure, of betrayal, forgiveness, and of power and greed. It is the entire spectrum. Rise Of The Saint Soldier is about belief not only in oneself but in others as well, belief that we are all capable of showing the love we are meant to.

Remember, Sikhs have sacrificed their lives for freedom over many generations.
Remember, Sikhs defend the defenseless, this is a key ethic.

We need to remember the genocide that took place in June and November 1984. The Sikh genocide like the Jewish genocide has to be remembered year on year to ensure that to honour the lives of innocent victims and ensure that such a situation never happens again.

Hope is important for a better tomorrow.
Together we can work towards reconciliation, charities for those who continue to struggle and improving our understanding of each other.
