2009 Film Festival Winners Announced

The judging process was especially difficult this year because of the quality of the films, which is improving each year.The panel of judges watched every film, most more than once, and marked them each on Creativity (originality,) Message (Was the film inspiring and/or uplifting? Did it communicate the filmmaker’s message clearly?) and Technical Execution (videography, editing, post production, etc.) Although there was often a clear first place winner in a category, the race between the second and third place films was often very close and the judges enthusiastically discussed the merits of the films in contention for those awards.

SikhNet considers every one of these films a winner in its own way, however today, Friday, October 2nd, SikhNet has announced the official winners.

The 2009 Film Festival Has Begun…

Over 40 submissions for this year’s Film Festival have been received and now we need your help. The contestants’ films are available for viewing. Let us know your favorites by clicking the "I like this video" heart icon to vote for the films you like best. Although your votes will be a part of the judging process, the winners will ultimately be determined by the Film Festival judges who will include your favorites as a part of their judging process.

Download the Film Festival videos by going to blip.tv Then find video you wish to download, "select a format" option from drop down , & then click download link further down on the page. Best to right click on the download link and select the "save link as" or "save target as" menu option.

Loads of Prizes for the Film Festival!

In order to encourage youth everywhere to get off their butts and take the time to create videos for the youth film festival, we award prizes to the participants in the different age divisions.

This year in addition to the great prizes which will be given for 1st 2nd and 3rd place in both the intermediate and junior divisions (18-25 years old and 11-17 years old respectively) we are awarding a non cash award of "Best Film in Genre" in each of three categories: DRAMA, COMEDY and DOCUMENTARY film.

2009 Film Festival Announced

The Fourth Annual SikhNet Youth Online Film Festival is gearing up RIGHT NOW and is open for your submissions!

OVER THE LAST THREE YEARS, The film festival has inspired OVER A HUNDRED film submissions from all around the world. The Festival idea originated in 2006 with SikhNet’s recognition of the immense popularity and creativity of video postings sites like YouTube, and the need for youth to get involved in media and use their great creativity to better communicate the Sikh identity and values.

Now in it’s fourth consecutive year, the online festival has been judged a huge success by the contestants as well as the creators.

Film Festival winners from previous years like Angad Singh and Jasmeet Singh have gone on to have their films shown on television in the U.K. and India as well as having them screened at other film festivals around the world.

"Tapping into the creativity of Sikh youth worldwide has been one of SikhNet’s primary goals. In 2006, when we began the online film festival, we could not envision how many beautiful and creative films we would receive. Nor could we have imagined the tremendous support we have received from the Sikh community worldwide." – Gurumustuk Singh

NOW is the time to submit YOUR homemade film. If you don’t know what to do, start tossing ideas around with your friends and family right away. It’s really easy to get started even if you’ve never tried your hand at filmmaking. Last year our second place winner in the Junior Division was first-time filmaker Kirat Singh Shahi. If Kirat Singh can win, so can you!

The best films from filmmakers age 26 and older will also be selected and will shown online, but Senior Division filmakers will not be eligible for prizes. (After all, it IS a YOUTH film festival!)
