Ik Dard Bhari Dastaan

We are a small group of Students and Engineers working for the upliftment of Sikhligar (metal worker Sikhs) Children in Pune India. We believe that only Gurmat da channan and Education can bring a change in the lives of these kids. Just a handful of Gursikhs can make difference to so many lives, we can only dream what if the whole Sikh Panth realize the situation of this community and embrace them with Gurus name in their heart.
We all have to come together and work according to the phrase:
“Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime” Also, please understand that a long term sewa is the only way to help our Bothers and Sisters to come out of their present state.

Hi,
One of the amazing videos i have ever seen relating to sikhs. We need this type of people in our religion. All this SGPC and other sikh bodies they really dont care of sikhs. They just dont know how to use their money. They will just build palatal gurudwaras of white stones and do whole lot of show shining things, but will never care for poor sikhs. We need hospitals, colleges, old age home, etc, for our community, but i dont know why our community leaders are not feeling the same. My feeling is that always money and power is in wrong hands. This video should be used as prachar all over the sikh world so that upliftment sikhs can be done.

Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fateh.
As the popular slogan “Proud to be a Sikh”, but for the first time I didnt feel so. I am so sorry for the neglect on the part of our community that we really cant call ourselves as Proud sikhs. I am touched and moved by the enlightening video and work this documentary has shown. I would like to come forward and request all sikhs across the globe to contribute their bit for the upliftment of the forgotten heirs of martyrs and heroes of our community.

Its so true that Sikhs in Punjab are so busy building up marble and gold coated Gurudwaras and stuff that they can’t see thousands of Sikhs abandoned out there. May be sikhs who watch this video would try to reach out to our fellow poor Sikligar Sikhs.
September 11th, 2009 at 4:22 pm
I truly would love to see this video played at the Nagar Keertans otherwise we are not doing the full service we can with this documentary. Also, is there a fund specifically for the Sikligar Sikhs that people can donate to after watching this movie? Sikhs have good intentions but no one to tell us where or how to channel our energies.
I have never seen such a service done for our religion before this documentary. I am happy to see that we are actually moving towards the real heart of the matter with Sikhi now.
The nice Gurudwaras were also a necessary part which has been fulfilled. There is a place for everything but over looking the less privileged of our community makes the efforts to showcase our legecy through the beautiful Gurudwaras seem hollow and very superficial.
The other sad part is that as a Sikh community, are so eager to help the other communities, like donate for Palestine, always mentioning Darfur in our speeches, etc., but never actually help out a fellow Sikh. Why?…Because the whole Sikh religion is glorified with stories of helping the Non-Sikhs? That is why!
I am a big supporter of world peace and all but first we need to look after our own. We already died for others and gave everything we had. This is the time to rebuild our own community so we can be strong in ourselves so when the time to give again comes we will be able to deliver. I think the vast population of over a billion Muslims ( that’s about one-fifth of the world’s population) will take care of their people in other parts of the world (which they are). However, no one even thinks about helping the Sikhs and if we keep focusing on helping others as well then guess who looses out in the end??? YOU!!!
Keep up the good work. Your genuine desire to help and love for Sikhi is seen by you making this documentary. Please contact me for any volunteer work there is.

It is extremely sad to see the plight of these sikhs. I do not know when this will open the eyes of sikh leaders managing gurudwaras.
I read that some organization like Nishkam is helping the kids in these deplorable living conditions with education facilities and also claim to build better housing for some families. I am sure it needs lot more resources than that which Sikh leaders of gurudwaras managment can help to provide.
September 11th, 2009 at 10:49 pm
..waheguru ji ITs so sad and feel nostalgia about the conditions of our sikhs brothers and sisters but at the same time it gave immense strenght to see that our young damanpreet and tarndeep kaur have taken up this cause…it must be shoWN on……JUSPUNJABI…….DONT LOOK AT OUT SIKH LEADERS WE EACH HAVE TO CONTRIBUTE FOR THEIR UPLIFTMENT…
September 11th, 2009 at 11:17 pm
Nishkam has done a lot for the upliftment of Sikhligars. In Bangalore, the sikh sangat has helped in building houses for sikhligars. Definately, progress has been made in terms of better education, jobs and housing for the sikhligars. My parents are involved in teaching them Math and English on Sundays. Some of the boys who have recently graduated have decent jobs. We need to ensure that sikhligars from all over India get similar kind of help.

Excellent documentary, commentary and running English transaletion.
Thank you for making this known to us. I am ashamed of the neglect of our brethen. I am also full of admiration of the communitys sikhi sidik.
Do enlighten us on how we can contribute and help.

I signed up for this neat network called KIVA. http://www.kiva.org/
Basically, with this organization small entrepreneurs sign up explaining their business, the funds they need and are also expected to make a profit and give the money back as they can. This I believe is much better than simply handing them over the money.
I really beleive that these Sikhs can benefit if we somehow joined them to this network. We can all then send out emails to other Sikhs all over the world and let our family know as well. I don’t know how we can sign them up for this and make sure that the moeny gets to them but this would the best answer for these people at this point. This will drastically increase the financial help been given and Sikhs all over the world could participate.

Put on your work shoes and get started. Do the sewa on your own. Start educating the children.

Dear Daman Singh jee, this is incredible work. At 24 years, Akal Purakh has helped you achieve so much, I can only dream what more seva Waheguru Jee has in store for you to acomplish in your life time. You are destined to make a lot of difference in life. Gurfateh.

The best help that you can provide us is to do sewa.
Look around and you will definitely find someone in need of your help. 45% of punjab is illiterate. Work on educating your community. Inspire young children to study well and be religious.
This is the BEST sewa a sikh can do to a fellow sikh.
“Garib da Mooh, guru dee Golak” Start helping the poor brothers and you are doing sewa.
The best way to do sewa: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

This is a EYE OPENER….I was so ignorant about this part of Sikhi….though I have lived my entire life in Nanded(Hazoor Sahib)….i really never paid any attention to the well being of this tribe which has played a very important role in the history of our religion.
I appretiate the efforts and the idea of Sikh youth who are taking this initiative to bring the sikligar into a society where they are suppose to be.
I urge all the fellow sikhs to contribute to this cause in every way you can. We as sikhs have grown globally and are in a position where we are stable in terms of finance, knowledge and infrastructure. I believe we should all be literate and lead a good life. We have everything a religion should have and we should use it for the well being of the coming generations, make them stand on their feet and let them live the life which our GURUS must have thought of.
Thank you very much for this video. Very Well Done
Damanpreet Singh & Tarandeep Kaur.
Hearty Congratulations to you.

Dear Friends,
Waheguru jee ka khalsa,
Waheguru jee kii fateh.
I take this as an opportunity to share plight of Mariganilized Sikh communities. According to a survey conducted by National commission of Minorties there are around 25 Lakh Sikhs of Weaker sections excluding Vanjaras and Satnamis. These Marginalized communities live in apt of Poverty, they don’t have access to safe drinking water, no formal education, no sanitation facilities in there bastis. They live life in deplorable condition but there faith in Guru is unshakable.
We would request all the readers to visit http://www.forgottensikhs.com to know about organizations working for the upliftment of the weaker sections.
Task in hand is Gigantic and we need a planned approach to move our brothers and Sisters from this deplorable condition.
Come, join this movement. Together we can make difference
At last i would like to congratulate Damanpreet singh jee and Tarandeep kaur for the commendable job.
Special thanks to S Sukhdev Singh jee Guru Angad Dev trust for his support.

Dear Khalsa Ji,Is not it unfortunate that our first geneartion Sikhs-Vanjaras/Sikligars, populations in crores & residing in unhyegenic slums through many states, are in most ignored underprevileged destitute community.Since last many years I had been requesting to Various Sikh Institutions/Gurdwaras-including SGPC,DSGMC & Takht Hazoor Sahib Board to set up Zonal Academies for adoption & longterm education-cum-socio-economic upliftment of these Forgotten Bretheren.Dr.PS Pasricha,Chairman Hazoor Sahib Board, was approached with repeated requests over last two years to set Sikligars Welfare Academy first as part of celebration in honour of 300th,Guta Gadi Samagam. He though agreed in pricipal few months back but yet not taken concrete action. However my Trust in collaboration with Guru Agdad Dev Society had since adopted over 700 Sikligar children for free education & vocational training since last four years at Ludhiana. Why not others adopts these underpreviliged by sharing Daswand out of their huge infrastructures & resources ;instead of wasting huge resources in buildings renovations,Kirtan Darbars & frequent long Nagar Kirtans. They should also spread necessary awareness & assistance & spot guidance & open helplines to bring them back to Sikh mainstream-,so as to check their large conversion to other sects & religions.A wake up call for Sikhs,please-Er.Mohinhinder Singh,G.Secty Vanjara Trust: E-mail: vanjarat@sify.com

True Gursikhs like Mohinder Singh ji and Sukhdev Singh Jee are doing so much for the Sikhligars. Just a handful of gursikhs can make difference to so many lives, I can only dream what if 100 gursikhs take up to the sewa of this community. What if the whole Sikh Panth realise this fact and start serving them with Gurus name in their heart.
If the whole sikh panth takes up the initiative in a time span of a few years I visualise Lakhs of sikhligar Youth who are true to their religion becoming Doctors, Engineers, IAS Officers, IFS and serving the religion. This job is not of any individual or any organisation, this seva belongs to each and every gursikh residing in any part of the world.

Some time I look at Punjabi Sikhs ( because they are will off financially) and it makes me think (as richer they gotten, they moved further away from Sikhi and moved toward drugs and patitpuna etc.) may be the money is driving them away from Sikhi.
And I look at these Sikligar Sikhs, as poor as they are, they seem happy as they are. They are keeping the sikhi Saroop, looks like they are earning honest living and I am sure they share with one another. So they are living to the ideals of Sikhi, KIRT KARO, WAND SHAKO, NAAM JAAPO. If we try to change their lifestyle too much that can through them off the track. I think educating them is a good idea and beyond that let nature take it’s course. May Waheguru keep them in state of Anand.

you ask the question in movie why panth is not taking care about these people ? I think because sikhs are gulams (slaves ) physically & mentally in india and mostly mentally in the world . sikhs bodies & centers are occupied by panth dushmans & bhekhis. these sikligar sikhs are not mentally gulams that is why they have more sharda and virsa .fifty years ago when sikh child starts to go to school they starts wearing turbans(by their mothers as shown in movie). that time there was not any patkas & rumals . thanks for you doing so much seva, we trying to help also what ever satguru order .

P.S. Damanpreet veerji, felt nice to meet you at the camp in Igatpuri.

If you are in India then you can find Sikhligars in literally any city in India. They are usually found in slum areas beating metal. Go to them and talk to them and you will find a way to help them with Gurus blessing. If ten Sikh families sponsor just one childs education the future will be brighter than we think.

dear veer damanpreet singh ji,
it was a great task taken by you and your associates for sikligar and vanjaras. i hope (sorry to say so) sikhs have forgotten their basic mission of our gurus of SEWA AND VAND CHAKNA and engaged in constructing gurudwara’s for marble and gold and following christianity ideology of weekly visiting guru ’s dar and whole heartedly for langar
i wish you a very best of luck and wish to be your missions small sewadar
may god bless you

Thanks for telling where I was lacking to be a true sikh like you. I am with you.May Waheguru Ji help us in acheiving the goal aimed by this movie.

It is a very great efforts of guru Angad dav educational and welfare council Ludhiana under the chairmanship of Sardar Mehar singh londen and his team which they have done for the uplift of sikligar, vangara and satnames who have been forgotten by the sikh comminties.it is humble request to the sikh nation to provide full help to them finacelly so that they can provide good education and food to their childrens because they are living at very low level. So I pray to God to bless all the concil members for doing such a great work.
