P R E S S R E L E A S E SAMUHIK VIVAHA (MASS MARRIAGES) OF 19 ECONOMICALLY POOR SIKH COUPLES WILL BE PERFORMED ON MAY 9 AND 10, 2009 AT GURUDWARA SAHEB BARAMBALA, SIKH CHAWNIAT, KISHANBAGH. A ``Samuhik Vivaha'' (Mass marriages) of as many as 19 Amritdhari Sikhs who are economically backward would be performed on grand scale on May 10, 2009 at Gurdwara premises, Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Nagar, Kishanbagh, Hyderabad under the aegis of Prabhandak Committee of the Gurdwara Saheb Barambala, Sikh Chawniat, Hyderabad. The Prabhandak Committee with the support of various Gurdwaras located in the twin cities are performing the marriages at free of cost. Prabhandal Committee Chairman, S Harbans Singh, President, S Harbans Singh and General Secretary S Bhag Singh said that the `Sagai' for brides and bridegrooms will be performed on May 9, 2007 at 10 am and 5 pm respectively. On the next day on May 10 (Sunday), Anand Karaj (Lawan Phere) will be performed at Gurdwara premises at around 11 am. Harbans Singh said that the marriages will be performed in befitting manner. All the Prabhandak Committees of Sikh Gurudwaras in Hyderabad are extending wholehearted support for the successful conduct of the marriages. The brides and bridegrooms who are going to get married hails from Maharastra, Bidar (Karnataka), Waranagl, Karimnagar and other parts of the twin cities. This unique service was provided by the Gurdwara Saheb Barambala keeping in view that many economically poor families cannot afford to perform such luxurious marriages that require heavy expenditure which cannot be borne by economically poor sikh families. The most heartening part was that all the Sikh Gurudwaras in Andhra Pradesh extended wholehearted support for the successful conduct of these marriages. Various Gurdwara committees and individuals will present domestic articles to the newly married couples which will help in settling their lives. The Prabhadak Committee, President, S. Harbans Singh said that only Gurmukh and Amritdhari Sikhs will be allowed allowed to participate in the marriages. The Prabhandak Committtee is making all arrangements including accommodation facilities, Guru-ka-Langar (breakfast,lunch and dinner etc).
