The birth of a thief-a short story
''We would not have anymore child.See! the thimgs are very costly nowadays''thought an economically weak family of a village.By the same time a wicked but rich man who earned by foul means started a free kitchen in the village as he was aging and suffering.
''It is,after all, not all that difficult to feed kids nowadays'' thought the economically weak couple and conceived another baby boy. After four years the man who had started the free kitchen died. This boy who was born due to the free kitchen learnt stealing and became a thief.

From the first perspective, the charity done by means of ill gotten wealth leaves its effect on the receiver.Example Guru Nanak devji could see blood in Mallik Bhago's food.
From the second perspective giving free food without getting anything in return over a long period can encourage some people to have more kids, leaving them with no option other than stealing. For example the government of India is providing free mid day meals to the government schools where 90 % children are from weeker section of the society.Does it really help? There is no sure answer.Perhaps some couples may plan a few more kids as feeding them becomes so simple. What would they do when the schooling is over?
From the third perspective a Gurudwara can or ought to claim some manual labour from the people who come for langar.Usually there used to be some Sewa going on parallel at most Gurudwaras untill recently. Now that construction work at most places is over, there ought to be some spiritual fee as asking the sangat to recite the holy name for half an hour before eating food,or there should be some charge for entry in terms of cleaning the utensils or the other parts of the Gurudwara.I have heard that at Beas the Radha Swamis get food at extremely low rates but not free.Is it a bad concept? At the Golden temple cold drink is available at a very low cost.Similarly other food items at no profit and no loss can be encouraged.

This is true to some extent. That is why Gurudwaras don't distribute just Langar, but Gyan too. Sadly people don't come to Gurudwaras much for Gyan now.
For example the government of India is providing free mid day meals to the government schools where 90 % children are from weeker section of the society.
This is done only in Schools I guess. And for a child getting food means less tension in life. It also strengthens the ties with school.
Perhaps some couples may plan a few more kids as feeding them becomes so simple. What would they do when the schooling is over?
Yes the students should not forget they have to get into good careers after school. And there is less guidance for some kids. True.
From the third perspective a Gurudwara can or ought to claim some manual labour from the people who come for langar.
Nishkaam Sewa veerji. All such claims are from sangat only. Not those who are served.

Hmm not bad idea. But wherever there is thing about collection of money, things go weird, you know?
