Benti (prayer) Chaupai, as the name implies, is a prayer. It is not a command.

Mere reciting something is not prayer, unless it was recited with faith and from the heart.
Gurbani teaches this to us, so we should not ignore this part when interpreting gurbani.
Gurbani also says that God always grants our prayer, and this should not be a question.

God knows who/what is our evil ("dusht") and who is our enemy ("bairan" in Chaupai).
We could be mistaken. When and how to grant a prayer is also in Gods hands.

Benti Chaupai is a deliberate act of submission to Waheguru for the best outcome.
