Part XXV-A

Love is a direction, not a condition.

When to us Waheguru holds more value, over and above all the rewards of the world, when our heart yearns and cries silently for Him, there is no need then to leave home or to abandon the family.

A scientific experiment would be unsuccessful if a single essential item was missing. Similarly, a seeker cannot succeed as long he or she lacks equanimity, regards a thief and a saint differently. Additionally, as long as one cheats others for personal gain, one cannot be on the path towards Waheguru.

Having this direction, this single-mindedness, is known as ‘sehaj dhyaan’ or spontaneous meditation.

Elevate your conduct. Regardless of how many times you fail, continue to pray for correction and continue doing simran. Just as the blackbird keeps her attention on her companion and keeps calling-out yearning for their reunion, continuing to be directed towards Waheguru during all our activity is the aim of our life.

An atom is a part of tangible matter. But it is so small that we cannot see it. How then, can we expect to see Waheguru? Those who want to see Him are often cheated by some selfish individuals who earn their living by taking advantage.

Our self, our soul, is the blackbird that seeks to meet the Over-Self. Just as vibrations of music are everywhere in the atmosphere but we can hear the music only when the radio is tuned to it. Similarly, in order to be directed towards Waheguru we need to first accumulate the wealth of mindfulness of His presence.

When, we are properly tuned, we can feel His presence then. Waheguru is akin to a very delicate fragrance, but the so-called ‘sants’ talk as if it was mustard oil.

Just as a compass is always directed towards True North, our mind must stay directed towards God while we continue to fulfill our family and worldly obligations.

This is the aim of Sikh life.
