The confidence you gain from NOT shaving (as a woman)

Postby AussieGori » Fri Jan 24, 2014 2:22 am

WOW I have never been more happier and comfortable in my body in my life. It has been been over 2 months since I gave up on conforming to society's ideals of women, and embraced my body exactly as it is.

No shaving, minimal makeup, no hairstyling, nothing.

While I was very self conscious, at first, now I am more confident than I have ever been. I am not concerned in the slightest what anyone thinks of me (based on my appearance) and it is such a huge weight off my shoulders, that I really had no idea was there. I used to think that I didn't care what society thought, but I realise now that I actually did - at least a little in some ways.

It really is an unbelievable and liberating feeling.
I hope to inspire other women to keep their hair, and be proud of the body God gave you.

Sorry for delay, I missed your comment.
I am 30 years old, and so far my skin has improved since i stopped shaving. When I used to shave I would get itches while hair grew back, and i would get rashes from the razor and the lotions (I have sensitive skin) and infections from ingrown hairs. I have not had ANY of those things since, and my skin is softer, and smoother (no discolourations, nicks, blemishes) and no pain or discomfort at all.
Am very happy

Aussie Girl, i really appreciate and admire you coming forward and sharing your experience. i completely understand what it means - burden off your shoulders.

Want to share a short story from Saint Kabeer ji's life - he was checking his face in the mirror one morning. he noticed a gray hair in his beard. time paused for him. And there was a feeling of acceptance and the next thought he had was - this is the first letter from the Almighty that half of your time has been spent on this planet. start preparing for the journey after death.

the whole story is about ACCEPTANCE. Accepting what you are and believing in it. he could have easily uprooted the gray hair. but he accepted it. its such a beautiful story and inspiring. You are also inspiring Aussie girl...

Hi Gaganjeet!
Thankyou so much for your kind words :-)

The less time you spend focusing on outer beauty, the more time you have to focus on inner beauty

I wish more women will try this as an experiment - just 3 months without shaving, and see if it makes any difference to their lives.... for good or bad.

It's going 6 months now, for me, and i could never go back! :-D

this is not a medical forum. this is social and partly spiritual. please go to the doctor in a big city. they all speak english and a gynaecologist will know your problem

I do not see how any of the above posts require a doctor let alone a specialist.

The comments are all general conversations about natural bodily changes when society changes it. When one shaves there are effects to the follicles and skin surrounding the shaved area.

Sisters, I am so pleased to hear the open and comfortable nature of the conversation. Our bodies are natural they should be kept natural and there is no shame in discussing them.

I did not shave for a year while in my university years and yes it is very very liberating. I had friends and family inquire my reasons and I simply wanted to see and feel what it was like. A wonderful experiment which proved essential for my path to Sikhi.

Well done.
