The doors of Darbar Sahib
AS some people might know the doors have been 'taken down' from Darbar sahib for 'cleaning'. Note the quotation marks as many people i know dont believe that they have been taken down for cleaning. If you look back at how the doors got there in the first place. when the abdalis ued to raid places the sikhs used to intervene and return the goods back to the original place. Around 250 years ago there was a raid, just like any other, and in this one the abdalis had stolen the doors of the Som nath temple in the Urissa State. The Sikhs as usual went to reutn them to the rightful place, but the pundits said that they have been turned unclean so we cannot take them back. so the Sikhs took them back with them to amritsar where they put them on Darbar Sahib. I know this might sound paraniod but it is very likley, Badal has taken the doors down for cleaning and it is very likley that they will not return, and will soon find their way into the Som Nath temple again. the doors are technically the Darbar sahibs as the pundits refused to accept them. It is possible that the pundits of som nath temple have asked Badal to taken down the Doors and keep them for 'cleaning' until everyone has forgotten about them, when he will give the doors to the pundits(possibly get some money in return). What are your views on this. to some people it may sound really far fetched and to toher quite possible. Jsut remember that the doors of Darbar Sahib have been taken down, and keep them in your mind. cleaning doors doesnt take that long and those doors were pretty expensive. Its not reall that i care about the money, it's more about the unfairness of it all and that fact that they are not in the place where that should be rightfully - Darbar Sahib.

Re: The doors of Darbar Sahib
Guru never cared about doors. If they take one we will make 10....but is it necessary to worry about these petty things. There are so many things to be done than consuming ourself with Maya.
Enjoy the bliss of gurbani, which is priceless.........Nobody lives for ever. Take care.

Somnath temple is situated on west coast of India in the State of Gujarat.
Whereas Orissa ( or Urissa) is a state on east coast of India famous for Jagannath Temple.
There is no mention of Abdali attacking Somnath.

Please find below extract from the above quoted wiki site
QUOTE
The Darshani Gates of the Golden Temple in Amritsar are the Somnath Temple Gates, which were brought back by the army of the mighty Sikh King Maharaja Ranjit Singh from Afghanistan
UNQUOTE
Khushwant Singh's History of Sikhs also mentions the above on the subject and refers to Somnath Temple priests not accepting the 'polluted' gates brought back from Afghnaistan so Maharajah Ranjit Singh got them installed at Darshani Deori at Harmander Saheb.
Another quote from the same wkipedia site
QUOTE
'Proclamation of the Gates' Incident
In 1842, Edward Law, 1st Earl of Ellenborough issued his famous 'Proclamation of the Gates' in which he ordered the British army in Afghanistan to return via Ghazni and bring back to India the sandalwood gates from the tomb of Mahmud of Ghazni in Ghazni, Afghanistan. These were believed to have been looted by Mahmud from Somnath. There was a debate in the House of Commons in London in 1843 on the question of the gates of the Somanatha temple.[14] After much cross-fire between the British Government and the opposition, the gates were uprooted and brought back in triumph. But on arrival, they were found to be of Egyptian workmanship and not associated in any way with India. So they were placed in a store-room in the Agra Fort where they still lie to the present day.

It will be interesting to know more about the Somnath Temple Gates and what is happening to the gates reportedly taken down for 'cleaning' by the SGPC. Any link to this 'news' will be useful.

Re: The doors of Darbar Sahib
Jatinder Pal Singh jee,
The first link in your post is about the removal of marble slabs from the Darshani Deori, which I had observed during my last visit to the Harmander saheb, when structure in Nanak Shahi bricks was exposed/visible . In the current live TV braodcasts from the Haramnder Saheb, one can observe some scaffolding around Darshani Deori which have been proabaly installed for the restoration work in progress.
Your second link is very old, circa 2004, which talked about reapir/ repalcement of the doors of the Darshani Deori but the news item talks about the plan being shelved for various reasons.
This stringe of discussion, I assume is about some activity about the doors being taken down for some restoration/ replacement work presently, I was interested in any link about that which would be interesting.
