FAKE BELIEFS

Postby Ekamnoor » Thu Jul 16, 2015 4:13 am

If Some one from sikh beliefs extremely believes in snuggling ancestor's graves & some martyrs, then how a person who believes in Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji, who knows that these beliefs are fake & misguiding, can guide them towards the right way.Which examples they can present to them so as to rectify them?

One of the examples that you can say to people to go visiting graves of ancestors or martyrs is the following:

It says on page 1189/90 depending upon which online text you look at:

ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥ ਮੜੀ ਮਸਾਣੀ ਮੂੜੇ ਜੋਗੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੯॥
He blessed you with body and soul, but you do not even think of Him
You fool! Visiting graves and cremation grounds is not jog [i.e. union with the Lord] ||9||

With due respect to initiator and posters, snuggling or visiting graves of ancestors or martyrs or any monument or memorial has its own and different reason/purpose which is necessarily not spirituality or jog or union with God.
In the context of initial post and replies, is visiting an historical place of worship inline with spirituality or jog or union with God? Thanks.

My opinion is that visiting a place of worship because of its historical background is fine. However if one is visiting such a place expecting that it will wash off one's sins or one will attain mukti or emancipation and union with God then it is entirely wrong. There are numerous examples about this in SGGS which I am sure everyone is aware of.
