Nanak and the Corn Field

When Guru Nanak was a boy his father didn't understand him. Nanak didn't show interest in the world like his father hoped he would. He thought "Maybe I should let him do something really simple. He seems to like being outside anyways," so he decided to have his son herd the cows. Nanak would take the cows to the fields where they could eat grass and he would enjoy the nature and sometimes he would think about God so much that he would stop and meditate. Sometimes he would even sleep, but in his sleep he was still praying and wanting to be with God very much. Once while he was sleeping the cows wondered in to the neighbors field and destroyed his crops. His field was full of baby corn and now there was nothing. So he complained to Rai Bular, who was in charge of the area. They got Nanak's father, Kalu Mehta, and went to see how bad the field was. When they got there the field was not damaged at all. In fact, it was greener and more vibrant than before. Some kind of miracle must have happened. Perhaps because the innocent child Nanak was so in love with God, he was protected. What bad thing can those who love God do? Rai Bular started to think that there is something divine and special about this child.
